AUSTIN — Attorney General Ken Paxton’s legal team on Thursday issued subpoenas related to the selection of the grand jury that indicted Paxton.
Four of the five subpoenas request documents from Collin County court employees related to the selection and empaneling of the grand jury that indicted the first-term attorney general, including “complete transcript and audio recordings” of the process.
The fifth subpoena asks for information on “a personnel action regarding a deputy clerk.” Earlier this summer, an employee in the clerk’s office mistakenly released the names of the grand jurors to 93 recipients, including members of the press, via email.
Bill Mateja, one of Paxton’s five defense attorneys, declined to elaborate on the subpoenas, citing presiding Judge George Gallagher’s instructions to the parties not to discuss details of the case publicly.
“Given Judge Gallagher’s expectation that the parties not try this case in the media, we will let these subpoenas speak for themselves,” Mateja said.
