It is widely understood and accepted – at least at DKos – that the Republican vendetta against Hillary Clinton and her State Department, known as the Benghazi hearings, is a mean-spirited, costly, and time-consuming witch hunt that has yielded nothing incriminating. The media attention devoted to this sham over the years has been beyond the pale.
But what is less widely understood – and apparently Americans have no desire to understand it – is that Hillary Clinton and the Dept of State, in league with certain members of NATO (France and England, most egregiously), carried out an illegal war of aggression against the Libyan government – under seeming cover of UN Security Council Resolution 1793 – which has utterly wrecked the previously prosperous land of Libya, destroying its infrastructure, killing tens of thousands, and turning it into a playground for marauding militias, some of which are allied with ISIS.
Hillary, in collaboration with State Dept. "liberal interventionists" Susan Rice and Samantha Power, hyped dubious evidence that Qaddaffi’s forces were planning to conduct a campaign of genocide in Benghazi – denied by representatives of the Libyan government who were touch with representatives of the Joint Chiefs of Staff as well as Congressman Dennis Kucinich, and who were offering to negotiate a cease fire – and got certain members of NATO to join them in proposing to “protect” the citizens of Benghazi. http://www.washingtontimes.com/...) (Not coincidentally, representatives of Sarkozy had already been in touch with Libyan rebel leaders, and had gotten them to agree to cede 35% of Libya’s oil rights to French companies in exchange for French support for the rebels: http://www.veteranstoday.com/....) Kucinich's urgent pleas to the State Dept. that a cease fire could be achieved were not even acknowledged.
This NATO cabal then persuaded the UN Security Council to pass UN Security Council Resolution 1973, which conferred on NATO the right to establish a no-fly zone over Benghazi to protect the civilians there. Whereas this goal was not unreasonable (though possibly unnecessary), the NATO collaborators then purposely exceeded its mandate, attempting to destroy the Libyan army with intense bombing while providing arms and logistical support for the rebels. Regime change was the agenda – and every bit as illegal as our invasion of Iraq (as Putin recently reminded the UN). After the major city of Sirte was totally decimated by intense bombing and shelling (http://www.wsws.org/...), the back of the Libyan army’s resistance was broken. Qaddaffi not long after was captured by rebels, sodomized with a bayonet, and murdered. Our Secretary of State apparently found his death to be rather hilarious: https://video.search.yahoo.com/....
Tragically, President Obama had elected to completely defer to his hawkish State Dept. in the run up to this illegal war.
At the time of the attack on the Benghazi consulate, this consulate was being used as a way station for arms being shipped to “moderate” rebels in Syria. We’ve seen how well that has turned out. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/...
Initially, the State Dept considered their Libyan adventure quite a notable success: https://consortiumnews.com/...
But unfortunately, the “liberal interventionists” who succeeded in overthrowing Qaddaffi had given no thought whatever as to how to reconstitute Libyan society afterwards. The upshot of this bloody illegality, four years later, is that Libya is a devastated failed state, in which radical Islamists – whom Qaddaffi had managed to keep in check – run rampant: http://www.counterpunch.org/.... Particularly egregious were the mass murders and expulsions of Black-African guest workers, whom Qaddaffi had employed in the oil industry: http://articles.latimes.com/.... Also memorable was a mass execution of Coptic Christian Egyptians committed by an ISIS affiliate now operating in Libya: http://time.com/.... A number of desperate LIbyan refugees have attempted to flee by boat to Europe - many of them drowning en route: http://www.wsws.org/....
But of course, none of this matters the least bit to the American people – who after all are so “exceptional” that they need not be concerned about massive death and destruction being visited on brown heathens. They only care about the 4 Americans killed at the Benghazi consulate – and their concern has been manifested through the imbecilic “Benghazi” hearings. And vast numbers of the American public are eager to see the War Criminal largely responsible for fomenting the current tragedy of Libya elevated to the Presidency of the United States.
