Never mind all the garbage Ted Cruz’s father spews about President Obama. It turns out he lies about his own life story, too. Perhaps his biggest draw in Evangelical circles are his claims of derring-do as a pre-Castro Cuban revolutionary. A new New York Times article shows what a load those tales really are:
The elder Mr. Cruz, 76, recalls a vivid moment at a watershed 1956 battle in Santiago de Cuba, when he was with a hero of the revolution, Frank País, just hours before he was killed in combat.
...
“I knew Frank País personally and I saw him 12 hours before he was killed,” Mr. Cruz has said in speeches.
...
Told that Mr. País had been executed the next year, in a different place, and that this had been amply documented, Rafael Cruz brushed off the mistake: “I don’t remember where País was killed,” he said.

An actual member of Pais’ commando group, who was interviewed by the Times, said he has no memory of the elder Cruz among them.
Another whopper Rafael tells is that he was arrested by pro-Battista forces for being a recruiter of revolutionary forces. While he was, in fact, detained at one point, it was for being in possession of a gun that he had never used. Asked to clarify, Rafael said he couldn’t really remember.
He also speaks of throwing Molotov cocktails, but, when pressed, says he can’t remember a single one of his targets.
Damn. Between him, his son, and the now ever-growing list of lies told by Dr. Ben Carson, can there be any doubt that the GOP is the party of grifter-liars?
