Hello, fellow Coloradoans!
If you are a Kossack dwelling in Colorado,
the biggest common news item we’re facing these days is the massive change which has just occurred to our beloved blog, Daily Kos. Although I’m working on a series of Colorado State Open Thread blogs describing the history of my own native Pikes Peak Region — largely, to explain why it is that we’ve become such a perfect bit of Nazi Germany Confederate-era Dixie “Out West” — I think it’s time to take a break, and discuss the current “Big Issue” affecting us all.
Why?
Why discuss this at all, when it appears that discussions about just this are everywhere, all over the blog?
Because we’re physically relatively close to one another. With the possible exception of the Four Corners folks who may well have closer Arizonans than their fellow Coloradoans to call upon, the rest of us are closer to each other than to any other Kossacks. If we have a problem whose solution already exists in the DK5 world, and doesn’t require bothering the site’s staff (who are assuredly up to their necks in hungry crocogators over this thing), we ought to be helping each other adjust. And there’s also the issue of community building and preservation; the very reason that the Colorado State Open Thread was started to begin with. Helping each other adapt to the new DK5 world, and thereby keep all of us playing here on the Kos, is definitely apropos to that original mission. In fact, I would say it was critical to it.
So what does our mutual proximity have to do with all this? Simply put, we have options to help each other that most of the rest of the Kos Community doesn’t have, especially those of us who live in the Denver Metro telephone area. If push comes to shove, we can kosmail voice telephone numbers to one another and talk each other through. (See below!)
And, in fine, I’m an old help desk geek. They say you can take the boy off the help desk, but you can never take the help desk out of the boy…….
:-)
A first suggestion:
If you ever used the Hot List function in old version 4, I suggest you drop a nice Kosmail (private message) to the wonderful and brilliant Kossack Wee Mama and ask to be added to her Hot List group. Then, when you want to hotlist a Diary, just republish it to that Group. Results: It will be hotlisted, not just for you, but to everyone who can see or open that Group (i.e., every Kossack).
And a question of my own:
First, how does one insert an effing space into the label of a Diary Tag? If you’ll look below, there are tags PikesPeakRegionKossacks and DenverMetro on the tag list for this Diary. I’d prefer these to read Pikes Peak Region Kossacks and Denver Metro respectively.
With that, I hand it over to you folks!
Please post your suggestions, your workarounds, and your DK5 coping strategies, along with the usual Colorado political discussions, in ye olde Comments Section!
