Deray is one of the leading voices of social activism in the struggle against police brutality on Twitter, which overwhelmingly skews younger and more active. As many of you know he has secured a place as a well-respected and prominent voice with black youth and the #BLM movement. He has over 254,000 followers, and has been a citizen journalist in Ferguson, Baltimore, Missouri State college and countless other cites of black movement uprising.
And he’s just finished conducting an online poll, following the #DemDebate, which was up on Twitter for I believe 24 hours. Over 42,000 people took it.
Somebody, somewhere, at some point, was saying Bernie had a problem with the black vote. This ain't to say this is proof positive of the opposite, but it's fair to say he's resonating pretty well with younger, more active black folks.
And just for fun, Bernie is outselling Hillary in t-shirt sales. Which would seem farcical right? Except that Cafe Press has been able to call the last 3 presidential elections based on sales there. (Staggeringly though, the narcissistic king of bankruptcy, capitalistic bluster and racial animus Trump is outselling them both. This NY-er however, has yet to see a single Trump (or Clinton) bumpersticker or shirt anywhere. But I have seen Bernie stickers on light posts, cars and on people's shirts). What about you?
#BlackLivesMatter and #OccupyWall St are the salvation of the Democratic Party. They’ll be ignored at its demise.
That’s all. Fire away.
If you don’t know who he is, here’s a very small sampling of his online presence:
