He fast forwards to the 60’s. LBJ fighting for Medicaid and Medicare. Decried as socialism and is no longer a “radical idea” but was still attacked at the time by right wing as socialistic and a threat to the American Way of Life.

He’s starting to drift a little bit here… “Rich get richer” .. “Faith in politics is low” “SuperPACS buy elections” “Young people don’t vote” …he seems to be building to something to unify all these points.

Ah okay… “If we are serious about reinvigorating our democracy, we need to build a movement that is prepared to take on the ruling class of our system”
He’s going back to his over-arching call for revolution.

Invokes Pope Francis. Talks about how this revolution needs to be more then politics and involve our entire culture.
I think this is going to be much more about Income Inequality then it is about defining Democratic Socialism for the American Voter. ...maybe he's just laying a foundation though but he’s hitting all his stump points. Billionaire class. Top 1/10th of a 1%. Transfer of Wealth. etc.
All great points, but not what I thought this speech was going to be. We’ll see where he takes it.

I don’t know how long this is but this is a list of stats. Savings rates. Wages adjusted for inflation. Social Security rates. Percentages about what goes to the 1%. Percentage of children in poverty. Amount of women earning less.
It all sounds 100% spot-on but this is his stump speech. This is his wheelhouse rhetoric. ...I don’t know what happened to the “new speech” on Socialism.

“Right to a decent job
Right to adequate food, clothing and time off from work
Right to all businesses to operate without fear of domination from monopolies
Right to each American to have a decent home and health care.”

Let me define Democratic Socialism means to me:
It means building on FDR when he said everyone was entitled to equal opportunities.
It means building on MLK when he stated “This Country has socialism for the rich and rugged individualism for the poor”

Now were back to stats. Amount of money spent by wall street in the 80’s to lobby for deregulation. and then links to bailouts “Trillions of dollars in aid to Wall Street”.
“Walll Street used their wealth and power to get Congress to do their bidding for deregulation. And then when they collapsed, they used their wealth and power to get bailed out. QUITE A SYSTEM!”
