Just a few points:
1. This website is free. It’s free, folks. We get to come here and build a community and make friends and do cool shit FOR FREE. I’m from West Virginia. We love free shit.
2. The tech support people at Daily Kos actually interact with us. They respond to our complaints and suggestions not only at the help desk, but in the diaries. We don’t have to listen to shitty music and jump through dozens of automated menus. We type. They respond. And they are nice about it.
3. Perhaps if the help desk weren’t also overwhelmed with “OMFG THIS PERSON HURT MY FEE-FEES WHY AREN’T THEY TIMED OUT” posts, they’d have a bit more time for the real stuff. What’s more important—a comment reply notification that won’t go away no matter how many times you check your replies or this person you’ve been arguing with for five years that will finally get banned if you complain just one more time?
4. Did I mention that this website is free?
5. Change sucks. I know that. I have freaking obsessive-compulsive disorder. I had panic attacks when I had to switch to a new grocery store (in my defense, they hid the mascarpone). Give it time and once you get used to the changes, you’ll start getting anxious about the upcoming release of DK 6. I’m already anxious about choosing my Fall 2017 Psychology of Women textbook.
6. It’s only been a month since the change. Yes, we had the beta website, but they were only going to catch so many bugs when so few people were interacting. Rome wasn’t built in a day. It took a year for Congress to pass Obamacare (and those guys work for us!). Let’s give the tech team some time to sort through all of the bugs.
7. What may seem very obvious to you may actually be very difficult. I read a comment earlier suggesting that we just go back to DK 4 until everything is fixed. As if that is a really easy option. Let’s just press command+z and undo the transition. Cause it will be quick. And easy. And free.
8. Free shit, folks. This shit is free.
9. This site isn’t built for the existing users. People come and go at Daily Kos. They come for a while. They take breaks. They leave forever. But we always have new people coming. If we want this community to grow, the developers need to be thinking about the people who might want to join this community. Their needs might be different from us old-timers.
10. I don’t actually have a tenth point, but as I noted above, I have OCD. I have a preference for things in multiples of five so I needed a tenth point.
Happy Holidays!
