There seems to be a false assumption underlying many pro-Clinton diaries. The assumption is that there is no point in campaigning for Sanders, because he won’t win the nomination. Look, I am a big Bernie supporter, but I have my eyes wide open at the reality that he is unlikely to become the nominee, no matter how hard I campaign. We could debate the exact likelihood of his winning the nomination all day, but for the purposes of this diary, let’s assume the Clinton supporters are right and he has absolutely no chance. Are my efforts, therefore, worthless?
Absolutely not. Every additional single vote Sanders gets, every additional delegate he wins, every additional dollar he raises is one more statement to the political establishment that we want this country to move in a more progressive direction. Each is a signal to Democrats to be more bold; each is a signal to prospective progressive candidates that our efforts and money will be here for them should they decide to run; and each is a signal to the next president, whoever she or he may be, what we want for our country.
So call the nomination over if you wish, but I am looking not only at this election but beyond. Please think not only about who has a realistic chance of winning, but of what kind of imprint you want this election to leave in years to come.

Some commenters are assuming that I think a Clinton nomination is a foregone conclusion. I do not. I am saying that even if you think it is a foregone conclusion, there is still important reasons to campaign for Bernie and get him every vote you can.
