I just wrote to Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz on the DNC web site and then copied my state’s (TX) DNC to demand more debates and debates at a time so that the whole country will have an opportunity to watch them.
I was motivated when I read here on DK that only 6MM viewers watched our last debate.
Here’s what I emailed to the Texas DNC:
Dear Glenn Maxey,
I sent the note below to Chairman Wasserman Schultz. I would appreciate your help in explaining to the DNC that by limiting the number of debates and the exposure of the candidates to a national audience, the DNC risks Democrats’ effectiveness in the general election. We have to get our message out now. to help us cope with the divisiveness in the country during the general election. We need to be attracting independents and those voters who the RNC attracts through fear mongering. We need to plant the seeds to wean some of the voters who have turned to Donald Trump and Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio out of fear but who might learn that they have a meaningful alternative. Our debates are not only for the primary. Our candidates - or some of our candidates - have a message that will be the same message in the general election. By limiting our debates to an audience of only 6MM, by scheduling them on days when people are watching football or going to Christmas parties, Representative Wasserman Schultz is hurting Democrats. Here’s my note to her:
"Dear Senator Wasserman Schultz,
I am disappointed that you have scheduled just 6 debates which you set for the least likely time for people to watch them.
WHY?
I think the Democratic Party has the responsibility to show to the whole country the issues and solutions as Democratic leaders view them.
I have read you have put your finger on the scale, trying to protect one of the candidates, Senator Clinton.
This error may well come back to haunt Democrats in the general election.”
If you agree, Glenn, please help persuade Representative Wasserman Schultz that she is putting us unnecessarily at risk in the general. If say Rubio wins the Republican nomination and the country has not had a chance to hear the differences between him and the Democrats, articulated during our debates, we will have missed an opportunity that may be critical to our success in 2016. The news media is not helpful. They do not seem to understand the critical issues and instead help promote the fear mongering. Please demand that Representative Schultz do what is best for the Democratic Party and the country.
Thank you,
Please contact your state DNC and do the same if you agree that this might help us win the general election and help us move the country away from the ideological fear mongering that the RNC and Republican candidates have used to hang on to voters. If Independent voters who are leaning Republican are exposed to our debates some might reconsider their choices and the down to earth solutions that Democrats offer. If Democratic solutions got more air time, the MSM might be more aware and less likely to repeat the lies of the Republicans which have been used to scare people.
