There needs to be a “Trump-Free Media Day” proclaimed, as most Americans are sick and tired of hearing the bile that continuously spews from the mouth of Republican GOP POS and presidential candidate Donald Trump. He is disgusting, bombastic, egotistical, racist, sexist, bigoted ... but more importantly, he is dangerous. Regardless of where his campaign ends up, he is planting seeds of hatred throughout the country—and around the globe.
On Monday, Trump called for all Muslims to be banned from entering the country. On Tuesday, he reiterated his plan. The world has been watching and listening—and now they are speaking. Annie Gowan of The Washington Post picked up several quotes from world leaders and media.
British Prime Minister David Cameron commented saying he “completely disagrees” with Trump, and feels the GOP candidate’s comments are “divisive, unhelpful, and quite simply wrong.”
Cameron’s spokesperson also said:
“The prime minister has been very clear that, as we look at how we tackle extremism and this poisonous ideology, what politicians need to do is look at ways they can bring communities together and make clear that these terrorists are not representative of Islam and indeed what they are doing is a perversion of Islam.”
In France, Prime Minister Manuel Valls wrote:
"Trump, like others, stokes hatred and conflations: our ONLY enemy is radical Islamism."
One can only imagine the thoughts going through the minds of the already fearful and distraught Syrian refugees:
“How can a country that always talks about human rights and freedom do this or even consider this?” said Bourhan Salem, 32, who fled to the Bekaa to escape the violence around his home in Syria’s Daraa province. “Do they know what we have suffered?”
In Israel, Haaretz Columnist Chemi Shalev said she is sickened by the support Donald Trump is receiving by some of the American public, and this kind of hate speech poignantly familiar with many Jews.
“For some Jews, the sight of thousands of supporters waving their fists in anger as Trump incited against Muslims and urged a blanket ban on their entry to the United States could have evoked associations with beer halls in Munich a century ago”
Daily Kos writer Laura Clawson did a piece on the reactions from the Republican presidential candidates including Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, and Ted Cruz that are somewhat amusing. You can read Clawson’s article by clicking here.
Kerry Eleveld, also a Daily Kos front page writer, covered reactions by Muslims who are very concerned and disturbed by Trump’s racist proclamation. To read Eleveld’s story, click here.
And Daily Kos’s Hunter covered Republican National Committee Chair Reince Priebus’s reaction, showing some sanity within the party. Read Hunter’s story here.
Most quotes are spot on. Well, except for the one by Ted Cruz, but he’s a creepy lying asshole, so that is to be expected.
One of the quotes that stands out is from India by a former Saudi Arabian member of Parliament who said:
“Trump has given voice to the rhetoric of hatred which has always been in the American society in some form or another. Sometimes the hatred is for blacks, sometimes for communists. Today it is Muslims,” said Shahid Siddiqui, a former member of parliament in India, who edits the Nai Duniya Urdu newspaper and is the co-founder of a group called Inter-Faith Peace Foundation.
On the positive side, Sidiqui adds:
“Now that he has brought out the worst, it will be fought by all that is good in American society and democracy,” Siddiqui said. “Words of hatred should not just remain under the skin. If the boil has erupted, it will surely be countered by Americans themselves.”
Let’s hope Siddiqui is right. Many Americans are in complete awe that Trump’s hateful rhetoric has gained him so much popularity in the polls. And we are also incredibly disturbed. As an unabashed liberal and Democrat, there was a time, very early on, when I was happy to see Trump calling attention to the ever-growing Republican extremism, but he soon crossed the line. Anyone with any human compassion would agree that at no point should hate speech be acceptable, much less cheered.
Thank you to the many around the world who are speaking out against vile rhetoric. As for a “Trump-Free Media Day,” let’s make this, “HUGE” and go for a “Trump-Free Media Year.” What an embarrassment he is to this country.
