Awkward
Urban Outfitters has
done it again!
ADL (Anti-Defamation League) National Director Abraham H. Foxman wrote to Urban Outfitters chief executive Richard Hayne to urge the retailer to remove the item.
“Whether intentional or not, this gray and white striped pattern and pink triangle combination is deeply offensive and should not be mainstreamed into popular culture,” Foxman said in a statement. “We urge Urban Outfitters to immediately remove the product eerily reminiscent of clothing forced upon the victims of the Holocaust from their stores and online.”
The item in question was found at an
Urban Outfitters:
It is unclear how widely available the tapestry is for sale. The ADL said they spotted the product in a Boulder, Colo., store. Bloomberg reported Tuesday that the item was still for sale for $69 at a New York location.
Such a strange
oversight for a company like Urban Outfitters who has dealt with this type of thing before—
like in September of 2014. Or just a little under three years ago, concerning
Holocaust-insensitivity.
Ugh.
