That is the right wing solution to everything, now if that actually worked there would be no bad guys. What they always fail to note is how many good people you have to kill to eliminate the very few bad people, not even considering the number of new bad guys created along the way.
They also refuse to look at the basis of how the very few bad people actually manage to attract ready recruits. If people are relatively happy it is highly unlikely that they will just join up with a bunch of lunatics. What you have to have is instability and lack of opertunity, then any perceived discrimination and or sectarianism can be used to fuel the aims of bad people.
They are busy frothing at the mouth at Marie Harf, of the State Department for pointing out these very basic points. How do you give power to the bad guys.
Why do young Muslim men and women leave Europe to fight for Daesh in the first place?
Why do people in the region join such a group?
Bombing and bloodshed rather than answering those questions exacerbates them. We thought we could bring democracy with our military [not that that was the real intent] then forgot what a democracy needs to function properly. Stability and a means of earning a living without being discriminated against. First we tore apart governmental institutions, then "we" picked sides and kept with that side even though "we" knew full well they were oppressing the opposition. Far from being treated as liberators covered in flowers, "we" were seen as foreign invaders by many. This is one of the reasons many of us were against military invasion and occupation in the first place.
"We" then came up with another brilliant plan, bomb a dictator out of power, then sit back and watch the show. What a bloody show that has been. So bombing for democracy pretty much failed and a bloody power struggle still continues. This power struggle has now embroiled another of our allies at a time that they have enough trouble inside their own borders.
The right also refuse to take note of the number of times that we have thrown lit matches at these incendiary region., then are totally cluelessness when the blow back ends up littering the ground with yet more corpses. Then they want to take on the next group of "bad men" in exactly the same way. We support and topple dictators and autocratic regimes at will, we encourage the overthrow of democratic systems we deem unfriendly and all we can then come up with is to kill more? Talk about fucking clueless.
Neither the West nor self styled Christians can claim to be the only real victims here, Muslims are bearing the brunt of this vicious cycle. Sectarianism, oppression, and discrimination are fertile grounds for extremist movements whether experienced in the Middle East or perceived/experienced by Muslims around the world.
Yes, you have to face your own creation as Dr Frankenstein noted, but the best way bye far is to learn from the lesson and avoid making the same mistake over and over.
The problem with killing all the "bad guys" is that some don't have your point of view as to who is the "bad guy". You have to also work out why the "bad guys" are so attractive and the gain power to slaughter.
So next time you hear the anyone screaming about Muslims and how Islam is a religion of evil, they are doing a wonderful recruiting job for Daesh. The next time someone calls for mass slaughter, they are part of the problem. You cannot win by violence alone. No war has ended violence.
