I wasn't able to put together the digest last night due to other commitments, and I'm especially sorry because there were a lot of developments yesterday...the chief one being:
—Hold Everything!! Actual plan SELECTIONS or RENEWALS 200K higher than reported last night!
In short, remember those 200K renewals from 2014 who I mentioned are being given the boot on the 28th due to legal residency verification issues? The timing and wording of the report made it sound like they'd be subtracted from official reports starting in March. Instead, it turned out that they were pre-purged from the numbers before the "11.4 million" figure was announced Tuesday night.
In other words, there were actually 11.6 million QHP selections as of 2/15, not 11.4 million. I was still off by 300K, but only by 2.6% instead of 4.4%.
Aside from my ego, this also has a practical effect: When calculating the attrition rate later this year, it'll be important to take this difference into account.
—California adds 2 more days to #ACAOvertime (2/22/15)
—New York: 407K QHPs; 1.54M Medicaid, 157K CH+
—Rhode Island 30.7K QHPs, 89.4% paid, 3,349 SHOP
—Massachusetts: 131K QHPs (estimated); 256K Medicaid (confirmed)
—#ACAOvertime: VT issues extension, MN 2nd state to add Tax Season enrollment (also: MNsure data update)
—VINDICATION: The Obama administration finally OFFICIALLY confirms "But How Many have PAID???"
—By the Numbers: 2015 State by State Comparisons
—I've also revised The Graph again with the 200K revelation.
