OK, football season is over and we have time to deal with the Washington (name redacted) controversy before the next season starts. Let's rename the team the Washington Warriors.
There are many advantages to using the name Washington Warriors. First, it keeps the spirit of the original team name. The franchise was originally the Boston Braves, but the team changed their to the Redskins in 1933. No, it was not changed to 'honor' coach Williem Dietz, it was changed so people wouldn't confuse them with the Braves baseball team. Washington Warriors is actually more accurate
Sorry Dan.

Second, you don't have to change much else. The logo still makes sense and you can make a fortune selling off anything that still has 'Redskins' on it as collectors' items at inflated prices. You can even keep the fight song--'Warriors' replaces 'Redskins' perfectly.
Third, it sounds good. Maybe it even sounds better. The alliteration of the two 'W's rolls off the tongue: Washington Warriors.
Fourth, it's been done before. Abe Pollin had the guts to realize that whatever the reason our basketball team was originally named the Washington Bullets it just wasn't a good idea anymore, so he changed the name to the Washington Wizards. Life went on. Little birdies sang in the morning when the sun did rise again.
So, I say that the Washington Warriors should be the new name for our team. If I am totally off the mark and Native Americans would still be offended then I am truly sorry, but I think it could work.
