This is the speech I want to hear from President Obama on the matter of the letter sent by 47 Republican Senators to the Islamic Republic of Iran:
" My fellow Americans, I am announcing today that federal criminal charges have been filed against each and every one of the 47 signatories of the letter sent to Iran. At the same time, I am announcing that I am willing to issue a Pardon to each and every one of the 47 signtories who are willing to admit their guilt in this matter and who request in writing the Pardon of the President of the United States. Until such requests are received, prosecutions will proceed.
The charges are based on violation of the 1799 Logan Act as amended in 1994 which reads: "Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both." "
If Republicans want to keep playing the Impeachment card for bogus political reasons, the least the President can do is to use his Constitutional powers for legitimate reasons.
