It has been ages since I last wrote a diary. But what Hugh Hewitt has posted on his blog is extraordinary and sick. Hewitt is a Right Wing talk show host that the GOP considers a high brow commentator. Chuck Todd goes on his radio show every Friday, and Todd had Hewitt on the Meet the Press for the express purpose of boosting ratings among conservatives this last Sunday.
Well, Hewitt has posted an article on his blog: that states in part: Obama’s aversion to the use of the military is an infringement on religious expression as well.
More after the orange divider.
I have always believed that the main motivator of the majority of the GOP is based on their religious views. So, it does not matter if the GOP is talking about the deficit, Climate Changes, or War, the real issues is their extremist view of religion.
Some have pooh-poohed this view of mine and cite all the chatter about taxes and foreign policy by conservatives. And, true, much of what they view as religious issues consist of cultural grievances and a fear of modernity. But religious views of the End Times, the Second Coming of Christ and Armageddon underlay much of their views. Hewitt has added a demented and dangerous new twist to these views:
So, here is what Hewitt recently posted on his blog:
Obama’s aversion to the use of the military is an infringement on religious expression as well. Jesus said, (John 15:13) “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. ” Our military men and women have volunteered to lay down their lives for our nation and those that our nation chooses to defend – it is an act of love. And for many that act is made out of Christian devotion. Amongst the military people I know their families understand this as well, and their sacrifices are also a part of their religious devotion.
Now , of course, decisions about when and how to use the military are complex and not to be made lightly. That’s not the point. Obama seems to never ever want to put the life of a soldier at risk. Even when he decides to use force, drones and long range bombing predominate – the least risky methods of military action we have at our disposal. On some level, Obama’s policies regarding the use of the military force robs our military men and women of practicing their devotion to God in the way they see fit.
Very sick stuff. And, a perversion of John 15:13 about laying down your life for a friend. Nowhere did Jesus say that you should sacrifice your life in war or combat. That would directly contradict Jesus's willing,
non violent surrender to be executed. And Jesus refused, according to the Gospels, to be the Jewish military rebel many wanted. That Jewish rebellion would come some 35 odd years later and end tragically for the Jewish People.
So, my friends and fellow Kossacks, conservatives want war and war with Iraq. And Hewitt has his own sick expression of this eagerness for war.
