Nobody bats a thousand, right? Even if "your guy" misses a few now and then, unless of course your guy is Brian Williams, you just give him a pass.
I have not always agreed with Jon Stewart and honestly, I do not always laugh at his jokes or skits. But all in all, Jon Stewart is a champion!
Last night's show, in my opinion, is an example of Stewart's halo slipping. He began the night by previewing past tidbits from the likes of Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, and Mark Furman, the ex-LAPD, admittedly racist, police investigator who gained media fame because of the OJ Simpson trial. The first OJ trial, that many storied "trial of the century" that conferred that cachet of fame on the prosecutors and police detectives involved in the investigation of the deaths of Nicole Brown Simpson and the Goldman kid.
Stewart took the time to review some of the charges levied against the Ferguson Police Department in its 105 page report that clearly exposed the department's penchant for being over-zealous in stopping and/or issuing violations to the African American community in Ferguson.
And then Stewart, and I can only assume that his staff, more than likely composed of young people with little knowledge about the "trial of the century", decided it would be a good idea to inject OJ Simpson and his legal issues into the presentation.
Stewart's halo tilted! On the one hand he acknowledges that "black lives matter" and that police jurisdictions throughout the nation have been involved in a systematic, racist culture that target and then kill young black males, like Michael Brown and Trayvon Martin. To inject OJ Simpson into a show meant to expose the racial animus that exists in our country only moved the peg back into the same old humdrum "Well, you know, those black men always kill and rob".
Wrong move and emphasis, king of night-time comedy! Wrong move, using that same old tired example of OJ instead of really trying to level the playing field!
