Should people pay taxes if they win the Lottery?
That's what I ask anyone who tells me the estate tax should be eliminated. Because inheriting wealth is no different than winning the lottery. "But it's your parents. You're their child." By the time you're 21, you are a separate legal entity from your parents. You have no legal right to their assets. And you aren't responsible for their debts. I ask them if being able to receive their wealth with no strings attached means that you want to be responsible for their debt. You can imagine the response.
