I love that Liberals get involved and support issues like racial profiling by police, same sex marriage, woman's health and reproductive rights, immigration, and protecting the environment.
The protests and outrage over Freddie Gray and others in Baltimore, Ferguson, New York, Washington and elsewhere are shedding light on an important issue and have set some improvements in motion. It is apparent that all police should wear body cameras. However, many departments don't have adequate funds for new equipment.
I keep waiting for the most urgent and most severe threat to American life to generate the same kind of protests and outrage across the nation. Rising poverty, the disappearing middle class, dark money in politics, tax breaks, tax cuts, and loopholes for the wealthy, deregulation of big business, lobbyists that have too much power like the NRA, disregard for the environment, failing school systems, student debt, and crumbling infrastructure all all symptoms of the fatal disease we call income inequality. Underfunded local governments continue to cut services and raise taxes. The poor and the middle class simply can't continue to shoulder the burden.
When will the citizen's of America wake up and see that income inequality needs to be our top priority? There will be no improvement until we solve this problem. Where are the protest rallies and marches for this issue? They should be unrelenting until those in power understand how deeply the middle class and poor are hurting. Wall Street should be jammed with sign-carrying demonstrators every single day. The phone lines of every congress member should be flooded with our calls. The power of social media needs to be used as a call to action 24 hours a day. Our constitution gives us the right to fight for more equality. What are we waiting for? Let's use that power. If it takes a full scale revolution, so be it! The United States of America belongs to all of us, not just the 1%.
