Dear Congressional Republicans,
Stop it. Just fucking stop it. Your countless attempts to override law, and replace it with biblical dogma all in the name of saving the American faithful from persecution is...well it's ridiculous.
A little education for the religious right:
1) Our nation was founded on laws, not the bible. We are not, and never have been, "a Christian nation". That's it for the education. Pretty easy to remember, don't you think?
Now, to address the so called Christian Right's freedom/persecution problem. (If you truly believe you don't have the freedom to worship as you please, or in a church of your choice, you must also believe that you are being persecuted.)
So the Christian Religious Right feel their religious freedom is in jeopardy? Uh, uh. Not even close. (As it is apparently only Christians that seem to believe this, I will only be addressing Christians.)
Christians are not being hauled off to camps. For ANY reason.
No one has bombed a Christian church. (Well, not white Christian church. On September 15, 1963 in Birmingham, Alabama white Christians bombed a black Christian church because it had a black congregation. So I guess it's okay for Christians to persecute each other if they don't like the color of their skin. But it still isn't "religious persecution", so I digress.)
Christians are free to worship in their homes. They are free to worship at any church they choose. In other words, they are free to worship.
However, what they are NOT free to do, is thumb their noses at the laws protecting others who do not believe as they do. Whether those others are also Christians, or Jews, Muslims, Agnostics, Atheists, Pagans, Buddhists, etc..
Don't like or believe in abortion? Fine. No one, I repeat NO ONE, is forcing you to have one. Every woman in this country has the right to choose whether or not to carry a pregnancy to full term. It is her choice alone, and something to be worked out between her and her doctor. Should she choose to share information with the biological father - again, that is her choice.
Birth control? Same thing. You certainly don't seem to have a problem with condoms, (because they are usually a man's choice?) so you are not allowed to have a problem with whatever birth control a woman chooses.
In-vitro fertilization? Again, that is the choice of the woman, her partner and her doctors.
See what I did there? Notice the words "choose" and "choice"? You have the choice of what religion you wish to follow. You have the choice of which house of worship you choose to attend.
You do not have the right to force your religious beliefs on others, just as they are not allowed to force their religious beliefs on you. But abortion, birth control, in-vitro fertilization, these are not religious choices - they are medical choices. Science choices. Nothing to do with your religious beliefs.
Women making choices and decisions about their own bodies have nothing to do with you. You do not get to make those choices and decisions for them. You do not get to dictate what they do to their bodies. You don't even have the right to KNOW about their choices and decisions.
So, let's stop telling the American public that religious freedom is in danger. It's not. Freedom FROM religion, is.
It has been pointed out to me (and rightly so) that I neglected the Democrats that blindly follow the White House's lead in allowing religion to infiltrate our democracy to turn it into a theocracy.
So, to congressional democrats (and President Obama) - just fucking stop it. You need to stop acquiescing to the quasi-centrist religious talking heads giving you money for your reelection campaigns.
