Les Beastiables ("Les Bez"): Because beasties say the darnedest things!
NOTE: This is the first of a cartoon series that is planned to appear with a new beastly drawing every Wednesday at 1:30 PM.
They're cute, they're funny, they're outrageous! They are Les Beastiables ("Les Bez"), and they say beastly things. They represent those who represent us in the public discourse. They might be politicians, CEOs, "journalists," or anyone who caught the media's attention. They're the beasties who think "free speech" means fact-free speech.
For too long, Les Beastiables have gotten away with saying beastly things because most people forget so quickly. Well, we will never forget. Dessins Les Beastiables will keep these memories in the public eye; hopefully the public will respond and hold public figures accountable. So please go to the brand-new Les Beastiables Web site and have a look around. Then spread the word about Les Beastiables via social media. Thank you!
A note about our previous cartoon: Joe Squirrel has been updated. I noticed that the real Joe has a tendency to fist one hand while gesturing out with the other. Thus:
So our new squirrel has a bit more Joe-ness. Now for new information, please see below the orange squirming of beasties in the hot seat.
Don't you just love the French? You can tell we're tres classy, y'see, because of the French. But I digresse.
Today we take on James Dobson. He's spiritually a little yippy man. So we have made him a dachsund. Enjoy!
For those of you who would like the references, "Dr." Dobson gave a talk at a press conference held in DC, recorded by
C-SPAN. In it, he says:
I'm most concerned about what the courts will require of parents and their children. A few weeks ago, President Obama actually asked the legislators to prohibit parents from seeking professional therapy from state-licensed counselors who would help their children deal with sexual identity crises. What business does this man have in telling parents how to help their confused and disoriented kids, especially those who may have been abused sexually? This is outrageous. In some states, counselors have already lost their licenses for trying to help troubled children in this way.
Now these and other concerns that I could list, my time is gone, are why we have called this press conference. The U.S. Constitution does not grant the judiciary the authority to interfere with religious liberties, with parental rights, and with the institutions of marriage and the family. Here we stand, and we will not go where the U.S. courts seek to take us.
What he's referring to, of course, is not "professional therapy from state-licensed counselors who would help their children deal with sexual identity crises," but conversion therapy. As reported in the
Washington Examiner, President Obama is supporting states outlawing conversion therapy, in response to a petition by the grassroots to the White House, because conversion therapy has been proven to be destructive. So yes, if you use an unproven and damaging method as a "therapist," you will lose your license.
!!!!!!
Please consider this an open thread. While I'm eager to hear what you think of the cartoons, I also realize there may not be a lot to say about them. So feel free to post your own links in the Comments section.
