The White Privilege Checklist
Do you remember Dixon D White? He's a self admitted redneck who, disturbed by a confrontation with his neighbour at his home, decided to post a video from his truck. In the video, he calls on all white people to come to terms with and take responsibility for their racism. And many did. Kossack dmitcha wrote a wonderful diary about
Dixon's video and challenge. Kossack Dewstino also
wrote a diary about it a few weeks later.
The video asked people to make videos of their own and talk about their own experiences with racism and what they thought should be done, and post them on his Facebook page. Many many people did just that. They were such moving testimonials from ordinary people! People who want change. You can go to dmitcha's diary and see for yourself what people have said. They are awesome!
I was curious, and since I FB, I decided to check this out for myself. I sent a friend request to Dixon and was accepted. I watched the videos and read the comments, occasionally making some of my own. I have come to the conclusion that Dixon is totally serious and committed to his challenge. He's a genuinely nice person who sees a terrible wrong going on in America and wants it to stop. He wants racism to stop. And he's not alone. 5000 people have joined his challenge. People of all races.
Here's his Facebook page:

Here's Dixon's video:
Yesterday he asked his friends to finish this thought: ""For me the best way to try to fix our culture and system of white supremacy is..."
Their answers are just over the orange tangle.
Quite a few thought that experiencing what everyday life is like for a black person would help educate themselves and others:
...is for white people to live as a black person for one year...i.e. Similar to the author or Black Like Me. ...Or... for white people to be the biological parent of a biracial child.
I think if we could all change places white for black, and black for white we would all learn alot, and find that it was time well spent.
To encourage them to travel to a peaceful country where black people exceed the population of others live and experience their lifestyle and culture for a while; explore the diaspora of a mixed family or try an exchange program with a black family; visit other communities and teach the young ones how to get along with other races, let them know the only color we see are our minds; start from the youth do a little experiment with them eg. the color of a black person's blood and the color of their blood let them compare the colors of the two bloods or biblically speaking mix a black and white person's blood (small amount) and let them see if they can tell the differences between both bloods.
When I hear it I speak up. When I see it I speak up. Those people Ass-ume that everyone thinks like they do. I know ultimately I can only fix me. I can only control what I think and do. I can only change this second. But I can be an example of doing better. Enough people speaking up will eventually tip it toward being fixed. That is my goal. I have a Great-grandson out there and I want a safer better world for him to grow up in.
Others thought education is the key:
It begins at home, teach our children that everyone is the same, regardless of race, creed, or religion. Then openly TALK about racism. Realize, it's a real issue... Open your eyes to your own racist tendencies, denial gets you no where.... Open yourself up to speaking to someone of another race, and realize we are all human beings, the same blood running through our veins. A person's race has nothing to do with their heart, or, the person they are on the inside. The sooner we all realize this, the better this country will be!!!!
Im for Twosy(Black Excellence) and educate our children to love everyone equally and respect each other equally. Band together and show the racists they will not be tolerated. Keep those phones out and record an wrong doings and out these assholes.
Teach evolution in schools. According to scientific evidence, everyone on the planet's DNA can be traced back to a woman in Africa, the real "Eve" of the human race, the first homo sapiens. I, for one, find this concept fascinating. It would probably drive the creationists crazy, though - you know, actual science being taught in schools. And the racists - OMG - their heads would explode!
Our education system is pathetic. Facts be damned! Let politics and religion keep driving what is taught as fact, and we will never make any real progress.
... take this New Civil Rights Movement into the classroom and teach our children the truth.
And many thought empathy was what was needed:
Think before you speak, show empathy/compassion and we are all on the road together-we are one!
Be more empathetic and careing. And look at things from a different perspective with and open mind and heart.
How would you finish this thought.. "For me the best way to try to fix our culture and system of white supremacy is..."
