Even though Congressman Frank Guinta comes from the Granite State, home to Mt. Washington, integrity is not his strong suit. Indeed,
Guinta lied about the $350,000 in 2010;
Guinta lied about the FEC exoneration the same year;
Guinta lied about the House Ethics Committee clearing him;
Guinta lied about Carol Shea-porter, whose seat in the House he commandeered;
and, of course, he lied to his Republican colleagues and, most importantly, the citizens of New Hampshire whose votes he solicited with the lies.
Did Guinta also lie to the people who funded him when his parents' dollars were gone? Who knows?
What we do know is that, unless they were looking to buy corruption, they didn't get their money's worth.
Before the Federal Election Commission reached a decision, after five years, the Citizens for Ethics and Responsibility in Government had ranked Guinta as "Most Corrupt."
You can hear the whole sorry tale here:

But, the more important part of the story is why it took the FEC five years to come to a determination and that's well explained by the Center for Public Integrity making the connection between Congress' false frugality and the effort to undermine democracy. Somehow, the "starve the beast" mentality on Capitol Hill can't be emphasized enough until the American people come to understand that the "beast" is them.
Congress rationing dollars and jiggering the laws so Wall Street can hoard them without restraint are not the result of happenstance -- any more than a drunk leaving his earnings down at the pub and then bemoaning there's no food in the cupboard for the kids.
