Yesterday I was doing some work for a couple of radio stations in New Hampshire. They are running ads from an organization promoting the Trans Pacific Partnership and praising Senator Kelly Ayotte to the skies for supporting it. The ads say that thirteen million American jobs depend on "trade" and urge listeners to write to Senator Ayotte in support of fast-track approval of TPP. Curiously, the ads don't mention Jeanne Shaheen, New Hampshire's other Senator, presumably because she doesn't support TPP and isn't up for re-election next year.
While I am happy to see my client get the money, it disgusts me that there is no one on the radio offering any other point of view. "Free trade" is merely the sucking of wealth and jobs out of America to the benefit of China, India, and other rising world powers. It is a penny-wise, pound-foolish policy that benefits only Wall Street speculators; yet no one in New Hampshire will ever hear that on the radio.
