I just found this via The Chronicle of Higher Education: #Charlestonsyllabus, sponsored by the African American Intellectual Society, which includes the most amazing reading list that will provide you with a comprehensive set of perspectives on the terrorist attack in Charleston.
The syllabus was started by Prof. Chad Williams of Brandeis, inspired by a similar project initiated after Ferguson. A group of academics has produced an incredible list of readings, from recent op-eds in newspapers and magazines, to historical studies covering a range of issues including the history of South Carolina; the history of slavery (both in the U.S. and in the Atlantic); the Civil War; Reconstruction; racial violence; the construction of white identity, and a number of other topics.
I highly recommend this. So many fascinating studies.
