This is a quick FYI diary on an exchange between Bernie and a gun control advocate which is worthy of note as some on the left have been making this an issue of late.
In case the D-Kos instructions don't work you can access the video at:
Tough Questions to Sen. Sanders on His Gun Votes & Statements (7/9/15)
https://www.youtube.com/...
Bernie voted for:
1. The assault weapons ban.
2. Criminal Background checks for all gun purchases.
3. Closing the gun show loop hole.
Although it wasn't mentioned in this video, I checked his voting record and he also voted for:
4. The restriction on high capacity magazines for all guns.
5. He voted against laws that would have allowed licensed "concealed carry permits holders" to cross state lines.
Much of the difference in opinion between factions in the gun debate breaks down between residents in rural states like Vermont and Montana and urban states like Illinois or LA or NYC.
Bernie addresses that with straight talk, as well as gun manufacturer liability which was raised by the gun ban advocate in the audience.
As someone who has lived in a rural state and a dense urban state, Bernie Sanders remarks makes sense to me. I know that for some, there is no argument that could possibly make sense to them. The gun debate is highly contentious to say the least.
The issue deserves a better diary than this but I work in health care and have got two patients in the ICU right now that require my full attention.
I do wish that the D-Kos Staff would update the FAQ section on posting videos as I've tried everything in those instructions to no avail... just sayin'
