Well, who would have thought?
For years, the forced birthers have been busy "protecting" women from their own decisions. Because, it goes without saying, they know what's best for us. They have to protect us from things we might regret later.
Like having an abortion.
They've been busy promoting so called "right to know" laws that require women to be force fed misinformation, such as telling women that they're more likely to commit suicide if they have an abortion.
Why? Because women can't handle abortion. It makes them feel guilty, and all depressed and stuff.
I recall one asshat, Bryan Fischer to be exact, testifying that women who had abortions were "the walking wounded," incapable of suing that nasty ol' abortionist on their own. Therefore, other people had to be given the right to sue the abortion provider. Like, imagine this, the putative father of the fetus.
I've also heard forced birther, after forced birther, say that women suffer from "post abortive syndrome," like that's an actual ailment. Except, according to the American Psychological Association:
This research review found no evidence that a single abortion harms a woman’s mental health. It also found that women who report distress post-abortion typically have other risk factors for mental health problems, such as substance abuse, poverty or exposure to domestic violence.
In sum, there is no such thing as "post abortive syndrome." It's made up.
Some Christian "ministries" have sprung up, to help women who have had an abortion. Rachel's Vineyard touts itself as "a place to renew, rebuild and redeem hearts broken by abortion."
The change of focus of the forced birthers has been from the fetus to the woman. Now, it's their mission to protect women from the evils of abortion. According to them, abortion is bad for women. Bad, bad, bad. And they must step in to protect us from ourselves.
Because, remember, they know what's best for us and we will only regret our decision later.
Well, this too is bullshit.
According to this study, 95% of women don't regret their abortions.
That's right. Ninety five percent of the women in the study “reported that having the abortion was the right decision for them.”
Not surprisingly, "Community stigma and lower social support were associated with negative emotions."
Forced birthers have been trying to use science for years to support their claims about abortion. But you know what?
Science is not on their side.
It's almost like women are human beings who know what's best for themselves.
