Governor Jindal responded to the latest mass murders in Lafayette with the standard script that republicans will pull out of their ass every time the murderers happen to be white and extremest members of their party. They will use words like "awful" and "tragedy" but will never be caught using the term "terrorist" unless the murderer happens to be Muslim, but that's for another diary.
Another word they like to throw around is "senseless" which by Webster's definition would mean: "done or happening for no reason".
It's been reported John Houser had a lengthy criminal record and mental health issues but yet was able to buy a gun at a pawn shop in Alabama. To me, the "sensible" thing to do in this case would have been preventing Mr. Houser from getting a gun in the first place.
Even though he was able to purchase a gun in Alabama, his criminal record and background prevented him from obtaining a concealed carry permit which is surprising since Alabama is rated the 15th best state to buy a gun if you are a criminal.
As one can see in the chart above found at the
Brady campaign, Louisiana has the honor of being the 4th easiest state to purchase a gun if you are a criminal. Bobby Jindal is pushing for #1 as he is rated A+ with the NRA:
The governor, who is rated an A+ by the National Rifle Association, has opposed every sensible piece of gun control legislation in Louisiana and has signed a series of bills making it easier for people to have and carry firearms in public. Last year, he signed two bills to expand gun rights for state residents, including one to allow people with concealed handgun permits to carry their weapons into restaurants that serve alcohol — previously, state law did not allow people to carry guns into any establishments where they can drink alcohol. The other bill expanded Louisiana’s “stand your ground” law.
Jindal was asked about gun control and responded: "Now is not the time to talk gun control".
Innocent citizens were mowed down in a theater and yet he sees this as "senseless", calls it a tragedy and moves on to making it even easier for criminals and deranged people to buy more guns. What is truly "senseless" here is Governor Jindal caring more about the NRA than his own citizens.
