This is a very simple diary. As a long time democrat, and one who is committed to Kos' formulation of 'more and better democrats' and who wants to win, I am now voting for Bernie in the dem primaries.
The reason is simple: Political corruption has become intolerable.
This Politico Story has the numbers. The 67 biggest donors, each of whom gave $1 million or more, donated more than three times as much as the 508,000 smallest donors combined.
POLITICO's analysis found that 29 super PACS and other big-money non-profits dedicated to the candidates combined to raise $271 million from 9,500 donors, for an average donation of $29,000.
On the ledger's other side, the analysis found that donors who gave $200 or less to the candidates' campaigns (and whose donations are estimated at $75 each) combined to donate $38 million to the campaigns of the 21 announced candidates.
Why Bernie - below the squiggle
Bernie's campaign is the only one in either party to renounce the system of corruption and legalized bribery that dominates our presidential campaigns.
I am excited about Hillary being the first woman president - but she is still tainted by corruption. Not personal corruption - but the corruption that comes from seeing the world through the eyes of the 1% - or the .001%. Although she has good positions, when push comes to shove I think she will fight to maintain corruption and Wall St. control, rather than demolish it. Since the Clinton Foundation started, it has been a two-edged sword - both doing good work, but also ensuring a vehicle to build relationships between the Clintons and the Super Rich.
People in this country are still angry about the Banks and the rip-off of the Middle Class, and I just can't vote for a politician who does not articulate that. Bernie does.
Is this a death wish in the larger election? I don't think so. Today Bernie is not ready to take on the Republicans and Wall st. But just as Obama gained stature during a hard fought primary season, should Bernie succeed he will be ready to win the general election as well. That's because he will have to broaden his base and learn to speak to the entire country - not just us highly educated white liberals.
Yes, I am dismayed at the thought of another old white guy. But Hillary is not fighting the massive corruption the way Bernie is.
