It is nice to see Black Lives Matter actually going after the ones who really do not care about them or their issues, in both parties. Funny how they only finally got around to it when people began to question why they seemed to be only protesting Sanders! Nice to see that these protesters are finally getting it - that protesting those who support you and your efforts is not going to help you win allies.
I am 62 years old and for the life of me, I cannot understand why this group was apparently only targeting Sanders until someone made it clear that the ones they needed to target in front of the media were the ones who had sold them out and would continue to do so. It is nice to see that they are going after the other candidates now.
I only wish that they would understand that some of us think not only that black lives matter, but that all lives matter, regardless of race, gender, age, and religion. We do so because it is the right thing to do and because only when we are united against injustice together can we actually right injustice. Alienating people does not help you, working with them goes farther and is more lasting. This was a lesson learned by the likes of civil rights workers from the Civil War through to today. This is a lesson learned with age, so perhaps I am being foolish when I say that all lives matter, not because I am color-blind, but because I truly think it is not the color of a person's skin that makes their life matter, but rather what lives in their hearts and minds.
I have a friend, age 85, black, and female, whose life matters to me, and we both see that the color of a person's skin does not make them matter, it is their lives and how they live them, so perhaps instead of leaving off the word "too", they might want to add that to their posters. Far too many people, especially young people, seem to think that only their race's lives matter, when in fact all lives do matter and only when we accept that can we move past racist attitudes and start working to make real inroads into finally getting justice for all people in this nation, regardless of race, gender, wealth, or religion.
But I suppose the words of age have little resonance in today's world, so you can agree or disagree with my comments its fine, but as long as Black Lives Matter assume that people of other races ignore them or do not address their needs, they may well be right. People ignore those who scream and act disruptively because no one likes to be screamed at. If you want allies, I suggest you find those who are working for you and work with them.
If you want change, become candidates who will make change happen starting in your own communities - not activists who only scream and demand. You are dealing with an American public which do not like demands or screamers. The American public is a slow moving machine, and only when you understand that can you make the kinds of changes you want - you work to change how the machine works (thinks) instead of letting politicians grease the works with platitudes and false promises to quiet your efforts.
Run for office - use write-in voting if necessary, get elected in majorities and make the changes. Disruption only brings police, riots, and a lot of very angry people who will not want to hear what you want, especially if they or a family member becomes collateral damage from an overzealous cop. I know as a progressive voter who has staunchly defended the victims and families of police violence that your actions make me turn away from your message, not the GOP or the Clinton crowd.
You want power, then seize it by winning offices and making lasting changes. Do not sit there and demand what no one will give you because they will find you unreasonable and inflexible. Instead take action to change what is wrong with real policy changes generated at the local level by becoming the government you need and want. They say that we get the government we deserve, so become the kind of government machine you want and deserve, instead of just waving signs and screaming at people.
