If you have enough "friends" on Facebook, you get to see every single stupid right wing meme that comes along.
Recently I saw one that compared people to zombies.
The world has gone so crazy that i think in the event of a zombie apocalypse there will be zombie rights activists
This is so incredibly insulting that it makes me a little ill.
So rights activists are actively campaigning and fighting for the rights of people who are underrepresented, persecuted, stereotyped, oppressed, harmed and are the victims of various kinds of -isms.
People is the key word there.
Women are not monsters.
Immigrants- documented or not- are not brainless.
PoC are not shambling destructive vectors.
Gay is not contagious.
The homeless are not going to eat your brains.
We aren't zombies, we aren't monsters. We have the right to the same rights, dignity and humanity as everyone else. We have the right, the duty, to try and create a country where those rights are equally applied.
That meme is so incredibly dismissive of very real problems. It's part of a whole attitude and culture that is very vocal right now in the USA that says "I'm doing fine, so there isn't a problem." It equates people with sub-human monsters that are going to destroy humanity. It implies that there is an apocalypse happening in this country now, and that the people fighting and campaigning for human rights and equality are helping the monsters.
We are not monsters.
