This came across my twitter feed a couple days ago. It's from Breitbart.com and I have wrestled with the idea of posting it, but have elected to do so. It's a hardcore, foamy-mouthed wingnut site so the comments are mostly racist with a large side-order of authoritarian boot-licking.
[For those who just have to have another link: CNN]
Essentially something was happening and an officer felt a need to detain a person:
According New York Daily News, “The plainclothes Birmingham detective was investigating a string of burglaries when he stopped a GMC Yukon and was [allegedly] attacked by the driver.” During the struggle the unarmed attacker was able to take the officer’s gun and allegedly “clubbed” him with it until the officer collapsed, unconscious.
The officer - who is insisting on anonymity, as well as other law enforcement entities in Alabama are saying that this cop and others are 'hesitating' to 'legally' shoot people for fear of social media backlash.
I say "About goddamned time!
Of course, they are largely just whining about it:
CNN reports that the officer spoke about the incident on Friday, but he wishes to remain anonymous for his family’s safety. He said, “A lot of officers are being too cautious because of what’s going on in the media. I hesitated because I didn’t want to be in the media like I am right now.”
Birmingham Police Chief A.C. Roper said the officer’s willingness to jeopardize his own life rather than lawfully defend himself for fear of backlash shows how big of a problem police officers are facing. Roper said, “The nobility and integrity of policing has been challenged. As a profession, we have allowed popular culture to draft a narrative which is contrary to the amazing work that so many officers are doing everyday across this nation.”
Yeah, Darren Wilson did some amazing work.
He even got a a whole damned day named for him
Those cops that strangled Eric Garner - (That was ruled A Homicide) amazing police work.
There are LOTS of examples of amazing police work, just in the last year alone
By the way: they want to charge the driver with "attempted murder". He had the officer's gun and if he wanted to kill the officer clearly he could have: he didn't.
Cops have noticed people are holding them accountable, or are at least doing some amazing work themselves attempting to get this former public servants-turned terrorist entity but they are light-years from 'taking responsibility'.
The attempts to hold police accountable for their rampant crimes is "popular culture drafting a narrative". Somehow the angry People of America are just printin' lies about America's Finest. Just making stuff up to make them look bad.
From this language you can see it will be some time - years - before (A) cops even get it and (B) actually provide us with the massive apology we require.
In the meantime they are simply digging into to their demand to work just the way they are, to kill people with impunity and to not be so much as asked a question about anything they do.
So now it's OUR fault this guy didn't unload his gun on another unarmed black man during a traffic stop?
Wrong, Batman: It's still the cop's fault for killing black people left and right like it's a contest.
By the way, don't cops know how TERRIFIED black people are of them now, what with cops killing black people for the most minor of traffic violations?
Cops have to take responsibility for actively creating this mess and cool their shit so it can heal.
But that's not about to happen anytime soon.
Many cops need to go to jail first before they will feel a need to change.
Suing them doesn't even scratch the surface of the problem because the money never comes from their budgets or their unions.
They face zero consequences OTHER than the now sustained public outcry and all they can do is whine about that.
They aren't motivated enough to change yet.
