I first must say it's nice to write on here again. Been understanding how to be a father for the last 7 months.
Also, I am working as a Contract Attorney at a firm, not sure how they monitor so this will be more brief than I would like. Or perhaps more riddled with errors than I'd like.
I want to start by saying there may be 17 R candidates, but really who do we "fear". Kasich has to come to mind and I wish there were more stories showing the guy is kind of a jerk and not this moderate "compassionate conservative". From his closed door inauguration, skewed stats in Ohio jobs, union stances, anti teacher stances, um every stance except he well expanded Medicaid but somehow hates the ACA.
But for another time when I may not be monitored. Let's start with his recent revelation that he is a leader in the "Black Lives Matter" campaign?
I think it quite interesting . . . because shortly after he took office as Governor he "didn't need help from those people" . . .
Again, I think we should be taking down these guys. The ones who get a label attached like "maverick" at the beginning while we are laughing when it's so easy to start bringing difficult items to the surface.
From recent: you would think that John Kasich was a long lost relative of the Stokes'
he (Kasich stated re BLM that he) understands the concerns motivating the Black Lives Matter movement -- and that he's leading the way in addressing them.
"There are a lot of people in our inner cities who feel that the system... works against them," Kasich said, and "in some cases, they are" right.
"I'm one governor who has also led on this issue," he added.
OK. I have not seen this pointed out. But I don't think one must live in the inner city (ostensibly) to be black, or worry about the system?
But on to his amazing past record.
Day 1- Appoint All Whites
Delivering on his vision for a “new way,” Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R-OH) “is on pace to be the first governor since 1962 to have an entire Cabinet without any racial diversity.” Every one of his 22 full-time agency head appointments has been a white person. Only five are women. Dubbing diversity as “metrics that people tend to focus on,” Kasich said, “I can’t say I need to find somebody to fit this metric” because “it’s not the way I look at those things. I want the best possible team I can get.”
So in trying to find the best possible team the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus offered their assistance in finding the best people who he may not have looked at.
Kasich's actual Response:
“I don’t need your people.”
In light of his recent claims perhaps it is because he is such a leader on race issues?
N.B.
That would seem unlikely, however, as the Governor apparently was unaware of when MLK day was and under the impression that MLK JR day was interchangeable with St. Patty's Day.
MLK day now March 17
Anyways.
"You're People" . . . The statement was to Nina Turner who discusses here:
https://youtu.be/...
Today, in 2001, it feels more like 1811 in the state of Ohio under a governor who just does not get it. I want to read some of [Kasich’s] quotes
And then to have the pure unadulterated gall to say that he can’t find anyone. In that same caucus meeting when I said to the governor “if you need help, we can help you” and he said, and I quote, “I don’t need your people.” Now as an African-American, I was kind of perplexed about “I don’t need your people.” I wasn’t quite sure whether or not he was referring to my ethnic group people or my people as in the 350,000 constituents I serve in this state that represent all ethnic groups, all religious groups. I didn’t understand what “I’m not going to hire your people” means.
Which Led to Ed asking her if she believed Kasich was a racist (not good in this day and age for one to wonder).
He also made some waves in the apparent "idea" of black businesses.
"You know where entrepreneurship in my opinion has to go? Into the inner city," Kasich said. "We have to convince African Americans that they can start and own businesses. And I was just laughing the other day reading that great article about Jay-Z, who's got a tiny little ownership of the Newark Nets and he's running the whole god darn place now." (Jay Z? huh?)
Kasich continued: "People like that (apparently Jay-Z), who have shown that they can come from the streets and have a tough beginning and then be able to become incredible entrepreneurs -- we've got to get it into our schools in the inner-cities, we've got to show kids that, boy, you can be what you want to be. And Arianna, I think it's critical, because if you take a look at the popele who've been left out of prosperity around our country. It's terrible. And we're having set-aside programs in Ohio and I'm telling my staff, I said look, if you don't give African Americans particularly an opportunity to share in the economic pie, we're just nuts."
But . . . not an opportunity in his cabinet . . .
I miss John Stewart. And I'm tired. But this is truly sad. Especially because he is supposed to be an adult.
His policies haven't really endeared him to anyone looking at the stats.
The median income for African Americans in Ohio is almost $20,000 a year less than that of white Ohioans ($26,039 vs $45,400) and growing every year under his terms.
Cleveland is one of the 10 most segregated cities in America, and since Kasich took office, the administration's record on black voter suppression has been terrible.
And tamir rice . . . but hey he started a task force. He cares about you. He just doesn't need you, care about your income, or want you in his cabinet. And apparently hopes you will come off the streets and be more like Jay Z.
