Here in the Philadelphia TV viewing area, anti-Iran nuclear deal ads have been running constantly. Most of what you might expect - demagoguery, throwing every accusation they can think of and hoping something sticks, funded by shadowy euphemistically-named PACs, and in general a willful distortion of the facts. Frankly, they are about as over the top as they could get.
However, this latest one is so melodramatic, so heavy-handed, it stands out from all the others.
The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.
Mr. President, we know you tried to make a good deal with Iran.
Whose leaders stone women, hang homosexuals, sponsor mass terrorism, scream for the destruction of Israel and death...to America.
So what if you're wrong, and they can't be trusted?
Don't trust Iran. Vote this down.
Of course, you don't get the full effect without the visuals and the incongruent music in the background.
Here in Philadelphia, I have seen two versions: one that says to call our state's Senator Casey, and one to call Delaware's Senator Coons. So I wouldn't be surprised if they are targeting all of the undecided Dem Senators at this point.
I don't know how effective these campaigns are, but if they are compelling citizens to voice their opinions to the senators, I strongly feel we need to exercise that right as well. For example, one might start here on why to support the deal.
The people who oppose the Iran nuclear deal do so purely out of politics, but want to convince people that they do so for the right reasons, whatever those might be. But those who support the deal, usually do so based on the merits of the deal itself.
Anyways, just thought people should be aware of the propaganda floating about.
