Rep. Joe Fitzgiibbon WA 34th and Chair of the WA St. Environment Committee addressing our group.
As you may recall, four days after the 2014 mid-term elections Representative Joe Fitzgibbon, Chair of the Washington State House of Representatives Environmental Committee, addressed our Seattle & Puget Sound Kos group. Those of us in attendance learned first-hand how knowledgeable dedicated and passionate he is about the environment.
So it is with extreme pleasure I announce that on August 23, 2015 Washington Conservation Voters, the political voice for the environment, gave Representative Joe Fitzgibbon (D-34) their highest award. They named him the 2015 "Legislator of the Year".
“Washington citizens are better off due to his untiring dedication to tackle global warming pollution and ensure that polluters pay for the harm imposed on the citizens of this state, said Joan Crooks, CEO of Washington Conservation Voters. “He’s an environmental champion and as the state looks to lead the nation in addressing carbon pollution, we’re excited he’s on our team.”
Representative Fitzgibbon had this to say:
“I’m honored to receive this recognition from my friends and allies at Washington Conservation Voters. We have much more work to do together in the years ahead in order to secure a safe climate and clean air and water for current and future generations.”
During the last legislative session Joe led the effort to shape Governor Inslee's Carbon Pollution Accountability Act, provided leadership on the issue of oil transportation safety and stood up to multiple attempts to weaken voter approved Initiative 937, the Clean Energy Initiative.
“Joe is arguably more willing to take political risks to tackle global warming pollution than any other Member of the Legislature. He is the institution’s fiercest fighter when it comes to battling the fossil fuel industry in order to reduce carbon pollution and protect our environment”, WCV State Lobbyist Clifford Traisman said.
The citizens of both the 34th Legislative District in King County and the entire state are fortunate to have Representative Fitzgibbon working to clean up and protect our environment.
Joe has posted before on Daily Kos and I plan to invite him to do so again. I have found his take on the pulse of Washington politics invaluable.
On behalf of Seattle & Puget Sound Kos members and the entire Daily Kos community I'd like to extend our congratulations to Representative Joe Fitzgibbon for being a fierce climate hawk!
I recall during our luncheon with Joe he urged all of us to call, write, e-mail and meet with our members of Congress to let them know that climate change is high on our agenda. In his opinion this personal contact is more effective than participating in climate marches.
I'm sure that advice from him has not changed!
