By now you know about the infamous Michigan sex scandal that caused the resignation of Rep. Todd Courser and the expulsion of Rep. Cindy Gamrat. (They were forced out not for the affair per se, but because they appeared to have misused state resources.)
Special elections will be held to fill the vacancies caused by the departures of Courser and Gamrat - and believe it or not, today Gamrat filed to run to get her old seat back. She can do that, even though she was expelled; the last lawmaker to be expelled, former Sen. David Jaye (R), tried to get his seat back after his 2001 ouster.
The Grand Rapids Press and the Kalamazoo Gazette aren't so sure Gamrat should be running. The Press and the Gazette, whose newspaper coverage areas include parts of Gamrat's Allegan County district, issued a joint editorial this afternoon:
