This is a legitimate question .How do you debate a liar? How can you debate a pathological liar? This is critically important at this time for Democrats, because ALL of our potentential opponents are liars. Damn. And not just little white lies, nope, they lie about big things.
So, how do you debate a liar?
I mean, sure, you can argue endlessly over whether the Earth is flat or not (it isn't, just for the benefit of any Republican trolls who may be reading this). Or if global warming is real (troll alert: it is). Or if stealing money from working people and giving to the uber wealthy is a good idea (spoiler: it is not). If that is the debate, the fact-based side is diminished, and in our case, will probably lose.
The news media does not and will not fact check. So it is fine and dandy to lie. If the lie is big enough, it will help the perpetrators. It then becomes a "controversy" (think "swift boat"). So how in the hell do you debate a liar?
Liberals are at a distinct disadvantage. We don't like to lie (we also don't like to keep people from voting and we don't like to bribe government officials to get our way). This situation is discouraging.
Carly Fiorina just "won" the Repubican presidential debate, in part, by flat out lying about Planned Parenthood (well, that and the fact that she was not as ugly as advertised).
And please, don't tell me that our ideas are so damn good that we will win. Eventually. Bullshit. I mean, our ideas ARE that good, but so what? They have been that good for a hell of a long time. Sigh. It is always such a struggle.
So, my initial question remains and I do not have an answer.
How do you debate a liar?
I have only one possible answer to that question. We have to call that person a liar.We need a candidate who will look that person in the eye and say the magic word, "Liar". Over and over. Ever time they actually lie.. We must all SCREAM that word at the top of our lungs until even the mainstream media cannot ignore us. Let us make THAT the controversy. Is republican candidate "X" a liar?
Sigh. Sometimes I weep for this country. Profusely.
