...the Mondale Campaign tried to pull the same shit as Debbie is doing for HRC this cycle, limiting the number of debates to protect a weak "frontrunner" . Congressman Gillis Long who was chair of the Democratic House Caucus at the time, thought it was unfair and persuaded his caucus to sponsor a debate at Dartmouth in New Hampshire and of course it got great coverage and was enough of a success that it led to other debates. Mondale's people initially tried to put a stop to it, but soon gave up. Leader Pelosi has said there should be more debates. She could do what Gillis did in "84 and make it happen this time. Why not have the House and Senate Caucuses and the Dem Governors each sponsor a debate? When the party establishment goes overboard trying to limit debates, its a good indication that we have an insecure frontrunner and that we need to have more debates. The Elizabeth Warren inspired message that most of our candidates have tried to incorporate in one way or another is the most powerful Democratic message in years and we should be giving it as much exposure as possible during the primaries. The candidate who we ultimately nominate will benefit.
