Received this e-mail today from Russ Feingold’s (D. WI) U.S. Senate campaign:
Friend,
It's a shame. Each election cycle, Republicans call for cutting Social Security and privatizing Medicare.
This week, I've met with seniors in Wausau, Green Bay, Eau Claire, Madison, and Milwaukee, and they weren't talking about how we could privatize and slash these programs. They spoke of how the benefits they receive from Social Security and Medicare are now more important than ever.
Here's what folks are telling me: They're struggling. They're feeling financial pressure.
These issues aren't unique to just Wausau or Milwaukee; seniors across the country deserve a strong safety net. I'll fight for this in the Senate, but I need strong allies like you by my side.
Will you add your name today to show your support for strengthening our safety net for our seniors -- and for generations to come?
Despite a clear path to strengthening these necessary, lifesaving programs, Republicans continue their tired arguments. This election cycle, we've seen many of these same talking points repeated. Senator Johnson has repeatedly called Social Security a "Ponzi scheme." He even said that it's "a shame" that it wasn't privatized.
Well, let me tell you -- it's a shame that Senator Johnson isn't listening to Wisconsin's seniors.
I am listening. And I'm going to continue fighting to protect and strengthen these programs. But we know we're up against Republicans like Senator Johnson, who are more concerned with pleasing the special interests than they are with listening to seniors.
Will you join me and call for strengthening Social Security and Medicare?
Thank you for taking action today.
Russ Feingold
