When Donald Trump, Jr. officially cast the votes to make his father the Republican nominee for President, he said that his father "gave real Americans a voice."
Not all Americans. Real Americans.
Now, this country of ours has a lot of very different people from all walks of life. For some of us, this is a good thing. Its a uniquely American thing. Its right up there in the motto, right up there in the first words of our landmark Constitution. There are a lot of people living on a lot of land that I would rather fly over than visit, but in my view they are no less American than I am. I'll bet we have a lot in common, as all Americans do in my view.
But for many others, my view of America isn't something they agree with. For them, an American is very distinct kind of individual. First of all, white. That's really important to them. But also this real American has a certain ethos, analogous to a combination of the Marlboro Man, John Wayne, and Al Bundy topped off with a ladle full of Lawrence Welk. Real Americans have lost their voice and they need a leader.
Donald Trump is the man they chose to speak for them as he is a real American who shares their values. I believe we, the not-real Americans, should believe the real ones and respect their choice. Donald Trump speaks for them. Donald Trump represents them. Donald Trump is their leader, never to be owned by the rest of us.
As we head towards the November election we should remember the people who will vote for Donald Trump and everything he stands for: White Supremacy. Male dominance. Authoritarianism. "Real Americans" will vote for that.
This election really comes down to who gets to be an American. That's what its all about. If you are not a person who Donald Trump jr considers a real American, you have the opportunity in November to stake your claim in this country right alongside Donald Trump by rejecting his limited, isolated, fearful and racist vision of who is and isn't a Real American.
