September 2016
An early morning treat looking out my kitchen window. The little bit of sun that filters thru the woods is spotty at best, and moves off quickly. I rushed to get this photo. The web is the Golden Orbweaver aka Banana Spider aka Nephila clavipes. You can see it just off-center.
Pretty sure about the ID without walking right up to it to check. That and the Golden are the most common Orbweavers in my woods. Links go to BugGuide with lots more photos and info.
Below the fold are wildflowers from yesterday.
The plant above is Lespedeza angustifolia that I have been waiting to see flower for a year. I saw it briefly last year at the end of its cycle and was able to identify. The colony has grown — maybe helped since I now weed out competitors.
Sunday Morning — Bye Charles Osgood, thanks for all the gentle words and observations.
