Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren will return to Madison to campaign for former Sen. Russ Feingold next week, according to a Feingold campaign official.
The Democratic senator will hold events targeted at college students in Madison and Milwaukee on Oct. 7, according to the Feingold campaign.
Feingold has been pushing hard to get out the student vote:
Kicking off early voting in Madison, U.S. Senate candidate Russ Feingold encouraged students to get out and vote at a rally Monday.
Early voting allows Wisconsin residents to get their vote in six weeks before the Nov. 8 election, Sandra Miller, Common Cause in Wisconsin’s spokesperson said. This can help students who have other conflicts and cannot vote on election day.
Over 50 people met at the early vote rally on Capitol Square. Feingold said in an email to The Badger Herald that early voting makes it easier for people to vote on their own schedule. He said every vote counts towards Wisconsin’s future.
“Go ahead and vote before Election Day, bring a friend with you, and together we can make an economy that works for all Wisconsinites, not just corporate special interests and billionaires.” Feingold said.
And the ad war between Feingold and Johnson is heating up:
Feingold's 30-second television ad attacked Johnson on jobs, trade and the former manufacturer's $10 million deferred compensation he received shortly before joining the senate.
Johnson's digital ad went after Feingold over his emails while at the U.S. State Department.
The Feingold ad opens with citizens reading the script to the camera. "He campaigned as job creator," one woman says. "But Senator Johnson helps ship jobs overseas, Good manufacturing jobs just disappeared," a man says.
In a voice over, a man says "CEO's and giant corporations get richer," as an image refers to Johnson's deferred compensation deal with Oshkosh-based manufacturer Pacur, the firm Johnson helped build over decades. Johnson and the firm have defended the agreement.
The Johnson ad attempts to link Feingold with Democratic presidential contender Hillary Clinton, who used a private email server while secretary of state. Using television footage from newscasts, the ad goes back and forth between discussing Clinton and Feingold.
