No matter which way you go, on healthcare or other matters, Sanders always says that his vision is only going to happen when coupled with “political revolution. “
What does political revolution mean? Clearly he is not talking about armed rebellion. At most, since he's running for president, we can guess he means voting for him. I don't quite see a run of the mill presidential election as a revolutionary act but perhaps I should be more generous.
From what I can surmise, Sanders seems to think that after he is elected the revolution will move on to radical, revolutionary legislative sausage making. That means Congress. Congress, under the Sanders theory, will only act when millions and millions of people…. do what exactly?
Call their Congressional representatives?
Write a letter to the editor?
Have a million man march on the House Ways and Means Medicare Subcommittee hearings? Like, every week.
Perhaps he'd like the American people to go on general strike. After work and hauling the children around and taking care of the chores and what not, you sit down at the computer and announce ‘im striking!’ on Twitter. Do it again the next day before waking up for work.
Of course, these are all rather conventional methods, hardly revolutionary, routinely ignored by Congress. Sanders must mean voting for candidates who will support him.
Is this the case? Does Sanders have a cohort of revolutionaries riding shotgun and ready to sieze control of Congress to rubber stamp his agenda? I can't imagine how much revolution could be afoot by electing the same people to the same jobs and expecting different results.
Unless of course, I'm reading too much into it. Could be ‘political revolution’ is just a slogan to stroke the kittiens of radical red meat lovers.
Which is about as conventional a politician can get.
