While it is understandable that a parent wants to know what is being taught to their children in a classroom, are we entering a period of “police state classroom teaching?” Have we become so scared of ISIS, Socialism, and “teh gays” that every teacher and every student will be pulled out and investigated for saying anything controversial? Its seems that way:
Student pulled out for “Pledging allegiance to ISIS” http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/student-isis-pledge-pulled-high-school-36417294
Teacher resigns after talking about her “gay best friend” http://mic.com/articles/133172/a-community-outraged-after-teacher-resigned-because-school-asked-kids-about-her-gay-bestie#.MgkX7Kr0u
Not to mention the numerous Facebook posts, Twitter posts, etc., that teachers find themselves in trouble over throughout the nation.
I always hate the “Slippery Slope” argument, but I have to ask how far it goes? Will teachers have to sign pledges to never talk about anything controversial? I, myself, as a Social Studies teacher have received death threats because I taught about Islam (and didn’t say it was evil).
It’s only a few people who are doing this, but they are loud and they are scaring the school boards and principals into such a state that nothing is allowed in the classrooms that “doesn’t follow standards.”
