The very first thing Republicans did in this new session of the House was to waste yet another entire day on Obamacare repeal, making this at least the 60th attempt. Which will fail. Just like all the other times. But they're inordinately proud of themselves for it.
“This is what we promised to do – we are making good on that promise,” Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) said. […]
“Today is a really good day for us,” Rep. Diane Black (R-TN) said. […]
Blackburn thinks there is still a chance Republicans could find enough support to overpower the President’s veto.
“You know, we have passed some things out of the house that people didn’t think we would ever get passed, so we’ll see,” Blackburn said.
Blackburn is smoking something pretty damned powerful if she's truly that deluded. Or maybe she's just trying to make it seem like this wasn't just a colossal waste of time and energy. Because here's the other part—there isn't another part! Remember "repeal and replace"? What about that, Speaker Paul Ryan?
Ryan has pledged that the House will come up with its own plan this year, something the GOP has repeatedly promised but failed to do in the nearly six years since the law's enactment. But he said details such as whether this plan will actually come to a vote have not been determined.
"Nothing's been decided yet," Ryan said. "Just wait."
But you already knew that, didn't you.
