Good day and welcome to DKos Asheville. This is the weekly DKos Asheville open thread for Saturday, January 9th. We try to get together every weekend to share with everyone what we're all up to in Western North Carolina and beyond. We hope this group and others serve to invigorate us locally and regionally here on Daily Kos, building on the sense of community that's grown through our online engagement.
DKos Asheville and other local and state groups can give us all a better sense of connection, a better understanding of who we stand with, work with and share with. We hope this local and wider community can help leverage our orange passion for progressive politics to move the county forward.
Following is the Daily Kos Mission Statement and we are proud to be part of this movement, on the keyboards and on the ground.
Daily Kos fights for a progressive America by empowering its community and allies with information and tools to directly impact the political process.
This week we are pleased to announce our first meet up of 2016! Please jump below the cool thin line to learn more.
After a non-stop fall season, the DKos Asheville family is getting together to kick off the new year with friends, fun, catching up and looking ahead. We are looking forward to a relaxed gathering in a great new venue in the heart of downtown Asheville.
There isn't an agenda for this event yet but regular readers know anything can happen with Kossacks in Asheville. There are only two things so far. One is that I am hoping to present a lesson in navigating and blogging with DK5. To make that work, I'll be reaching out to people smarter than me on this subject so I can present the subject well and we will need a lap top and a projector, so please keep that in mind.
The other item will be the upcoming Mass Moral March in Raleigh on Saturday, Feb 13th. Please see my comment below for more information. I'm sure by then we will have arranged for a group from Asheville and beyond to travel and meet at the march but this meeting could serve as an opportunity for more people to join with us as we network to make Asheville’s presence a strong one.

Asheville’s new venue for collective activism
The Block off Biltmore
39 S. Market Street, Asheville, NC 28801
(Corner of Eagle & Market)
Directions (Google Maps)
THE MISSION of THE BLOCK off Biltmore…… To be a place for people to converge in order to build community and inclusive friendships between diverse movements, where social justice issues are discussed, actions formulated, and deep, healing magic happens.
Radical magic is created through a compassionate, comfortable, cruelty-free atmosphere, along with music, art, spoken word, film and other conscious, value-driven events. Fun, laughter, friendship, unity, empowerment and action are the ultimate byproducts.
I'll know more about the food offerings, (all vegan) and how all that works next week when I meet with the owner to discuss details. This is an exciting new venue for Asheville that is fast becoming a hub for progressive minds and organizations.
Please Kosmail me if you can make it downtown for the first DKos Asheville Meet up of 2016.
