New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has issued a cease and desist order to the Trump Foundation, saying that because it “is not and was not registered with the Charities Bureau,” it “must immediately cease soliciting contributions or engaging in any other fundraising activities in New York.” The Trump Foundation’s response came, for some reason, from the Trump campaign in the form of campaign press secretary Hope Hicks. Hicks issued a statement saying:
While we remain very concerned about the political motives behind AG Schneiderman’s investigation, the Trump Foundation nevertheless intends to cooperate fully with the investigation. Because this is an ongoing legal matter, the Trump Foundation will not comment further at this time.
Don’t you love the “political motives” bit? As if Schneiderman went out searching for something to do to Trump, as opposed to reading a stream of news stories about all the dodgy stuff Trump has done with his foundation and thinking “hmm, maybe as a law enforcement officer I should look into this extremely sketchy ‘charity’ operating in my state.”
Sad news for Trump, though, who will now have to pay for it himself if he wants any more Tim Tebow jerseys or portraits of Donald Trump.
