You know, I am truly loving the Washington Post these days! My sincere thanks to the Kossack that gave me a free “buddy subscription” he got when he signed up, I kept going over my weekly free views...And there is good reason for any Kossack to love the WaPo these days, they are carpet bombing Trump, and with what appears to be some success since Trumpelthinskin is now insulting both the WaPo and its writers for their coverage.
David Fahrenthold is a national treasure. There is seldom a word of sarcasm or snark in his articles. Instead, he is using good old fashioned, get into the mud research to dismantle the bogus Trump Foundation one sleazy brick at a time. This hits Trump where it hurts. And now Robert Costa, Sean Sullivan and Philip Rucker have put together a piece recapping Trump’s self destructive week, and what it means to the GOP nationally.
It isn’t pretty. According to the ARTICLE, there is now growing panic in Congressional Republicans and the GOP as to what effect Trump is having on the down ballot races. They are scared shitless, not only at his inability to stay on focus and make this election a referendum on Hillary, but about the drag he is creating for other candidates.
Party officials said they are newly embarrassed by Trump’s impulsive behavior and exasperated by his inability to concentrate on his change message and frame the race as a referendum on Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, according to interviews with more than two dozen of them.
Senate and House candidates are ducking questions about Trump and distancing themselves, while Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has refused to talk about him. And few elected leaders are counseling him.
When you have both incumbent and newly running candidates trying to distance themselves from the top of the ticket, you’re in deep kim-chee, for one simple reason. Studies have shown that a vast majority of voters are “straight party” voters, they go into the booth, punch the Republican or Democratic master hole at the top, and go home to watch Gilligan’s Island reruns. They are highly unlikely to go into a voting booth, vote for Hillary or Gary Johnson at the top of the ticket, and then take the time required to go down the ballot, manually voting for the GOP candidates farther down. They’ll just stay home. This is a dream scenario for us, as it chips away at the support for the down ballot GOP candidates as well.
I have been saying this for months now, every Democratic candidate up and down the ticket needs to tie their opponent to The Orange Julius with barbed wire. It is perfectly understandable that the GOP candidates don’t want to talk about Trump, but the Democratic candidates sure as shit should! Every chance they get, make him a centerpiece of the campaign, remind everybody that BeetleTrump is the voice of the Republican party, and that isn’t a “Q” that their opponent has behind his name. If you want to see how bad it is in GOP land, this should sum it up nicely;
At an intimate fundraiser Wednesday for Rep. Joseph J. Heck (R-Nev.), who is running for the Senate, McConnell asked the group of about a dozen supporters how many of them think Trump can win. About half of the attendees raised their hands. But when McConnell then asked how many thought Trump would win, no hands went up, and the room fell silent, according to a person familiar with the scene who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a closed event.
These are deep pocket donors, and when Trump’s name is mentioned it gets as quiet as a funeral. They may be willing to support slime like Heck, but they want neither their name nor their money anywhere near Trump. There’s another problem here, an “intimate fundraiser” with only about “a dozen supporters” present? This is not “intimate”, it’s pathetic! Where did they hold it, in a private room at The Golden Corral? How bad is it when Ditch McConnell has to show up in person for twelve people with checkbooks?
Look, getting Hillary elected and giving Trumpenstein ample time to prepare for his upcoming trial(s) is paramount. But it’s not just about Hillary, there are a host of down ballot candidates that matter as well. When you get ready to go out and recruit registration, or pound the doors to GOTV, spend just a few minutes researching the down ballot candidates so you can bring them up as well, this is how elections become wave elections. If you’d like some help 90for90.org is a great place to start, chock full of solid progressive candidates that can use all the help they can get! Come on guys, let’s “Git ‘er DONE”!
