One of the things Trump said during tonight’s debate that I hope will get more attention was his response to Anderson Cooper’s question on whether he understood he was admitting to sexual assault where he dismissed his comments as locker room talk and referred to them as ‘just words.’
Trump doesn’t seem to realize the world takes the ‘words’ of a candidate for President of the United States seriously. So when he talks about “second amendment people” taking care of Hillary, or talks about dating his daughter or calls for “A total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States” or so many other outrageous things, we take him at his word. As we’re now becoming accustomed to — his statements are later explained by him or his surrogates as ‘just words’ or just ‘Trump being Trump’ or that he didn’t really mean it.
How are we to know which is which? Will he provide us with a decoder ring so we can determine which things he means and which are ‘just words?’ Is it just his lewd sexual comments that are simply locker room talk and untrue? If so — then surely his suggestion that there was “no problem” with the size of his penis falls into that category.
If there really are any undecided voters left at this point I would simply ask them to visualize a President Trump going to the G8 summit or any other event where he represents all Americans and ask themselves if they won’t be holding their breath hoping he doesn’t use ‘just words’ when speaking for them.
