I would agree that it’s too early to start writing an obituary of this years presidential election but I would caution that failure will take care of itself but success must be prepared for. This diary is about the day AFTER the election and what we need to do next.
It is looking increasingly likely that Hillary Clinton will be our next President and in the final days before the vote it is very important that we not lose focus, that we pay attention to the news and remain active in making sure that the vote goes our way as far down the ballot as possible. In that context I understand that it is impossible to avoid watching TV, clicking on articles and other media involving the Peach Satan. But we must be ready and prepare ourselves collectively to put the final screw on Hair Twittler once the election is finished. As many others here and elsewhere have pointed out, Trump has been made successful by the amount of TV coverage he gets due to the general interest in stories he features in. Trump sells airtime regardless of the type of story and in that regard the progressive left, and democrats in general, have played our part in giving him the media airtime and support he had required to run his campaign. This is not to say we are guilty of making this man merely by paying attention to him, but that his ability to draw an audience of any kind, right or left by making outrageous statements has been his strategy all along. And to a large extent this has worked, giving him large audiences even when that audience hates him because we are obsessed with the danger that this man posses to democracy and the sheer enormity of the train wreck his campaign has become.
I always hated this man but now I have come loath the sound of his voice and the idea that he will walk away from this election, after all the damage he has done, and onto the set of various media outlets to make his next million as a pundit really gives me a belly ache.
If we want to really ensure that his failure and destruction is complete we need to deprive him of a position as a pundit to represent his vile base after the election. If we really want to hurt this guy, then we need to stand firm and united in taking a stand against watching, reading or clicking on anything that has him involved. That is the only way we can send a financial signal to the media that Trump as a brand is dead and toxic. He must become media toxic because they know that Trump will not mean ratings but the opposite. No matter what, this needs to become a viral idea. Spread it, blog it, put it on Facebook, make a video...whatever, just take the pledge that this man’s minutes of fame are up. No more!
Come the 9th, Boycott the Trump!
